Civil War Millard New York Cavalry Sword 1862 DatedUp for bid is a farily scarce original millard civil war cavalry sabre. Millard was awarded a u. S. Government contract for 10,000 cavalry swords in december of 1861. The sword measures 42.5 inches in length, with a 35 inch blade.
The sword is in as found original condition. The sword is tight and totally intact. The sword shows definite signs of field wear and use. Teh blade shows signs of a period sharpening and has some nicks but still presents very well. The blade is marked us cew 1862 on one side, and d.
J. Millard clayville nwe york on the other. The scabbard hsa been period nickel plated with the plating showing some oxidation and spotting in areas. The soldier hasd also acrved an x on the end of the pommel. The brass guard has a nice look with soem expected dings and a nice patina. The original leather wrapping and brass wire are present on the sword, with the leather worn thin and missing in areas. The is a nice respectable mid grade millard, and displays wonderfully. The sword is fresh to the market, and would make a nice addition to most any civil war collection. Winning bidder to please add $12.00 for well packaged priority mail shipping.
